Return of the Repressed

The return of the repressed is part of someone's mental health where memories from their past that they have forgotten and returns to take form. This links to Todorov's theory of the 'uncanny' villians where there is a psychological reason for thier recklessness that can be explained. The classic 'uncanny' villian is Jason Voorhees, his motivation was that he was a deformed child who almost drowned and spent his childhood growing up alone in the woods. He saw his mum get murdered by a camp counsellor so he targets anyone who returns to Camp Crystal Lake. This makes the audience feel empathy for the villian and understand the events that they have been through.
