In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

In terms of advertising and marketing, teaser trailers sre inportant when making a film. They are made by distribution companies to reach out to their target audience in order for the movie to be seen. In order to do this, the teaser trailer has to suit to the genre of movie. In horror movie trailers, it gives the a glimpse of different shots but not give away the whole plot. This is supposed to make the movie seem scary or mysterious which will make people want to see the movie. It was important to stick to the conventions of horror movie trailers, when making it and make sure that it will make people want to watch the film. As teaser trailers are persuading people to come and see the film, they are very important in order to make money. The trailer has to persuade people to come and see the movie and inform them about it.

These are nine images of screen shots of our horror movie trailer along with nine screen shots from other horror trailers. The first shots are at the beggining of the trailer to establish where the setting is. This shot is in daylight to make it appear there is nothing wrong. The second screen frame from my trailer is showing the setting with motivated lighting to see the setting. The close up of the front door in the dark in our trailer is similar to the shot from Hostel as the light makes it appear sinister. Shot 6 shows the inter-titles which help the narrative in trailers and is important in horror movie trailers as it helps the audience understand the plot. As it is conventional to have close up shots of the victim looking scared to show emotion and make the audience feel scared the screen frame (labelled 5) is a close up of the main character. The screenframes labelled 6 show shots with reflective surfaces, this can be used to make an effect on the audience as there is something you cannot see what you can see in the mirror. Shot 7 has the villians look like they are silhouettes to make the audience scared and on the edge of their seat. The last screenframes are close up shots of body parts which is used in horror movie trailers to create a lasting effect on the audience to make them go and see the movie.

Our group tried to make the sound as scary as possible in our trailer. Typical horror movie trailers do not have any dialogue or voiceover but use intertitles to give the audience an idea of what the movie is about. We created our soundtrack to the trailer on GarageBand. The soundtrack is supposed to create tension and help to build up to the climax of the trailer. Although we had music going throught the trailer, we paused for silence to make an effect for a scream which is conventional to horror trailers.
